There is a significant level of confusion and misunderstanding concerning the chiropractic profession. To most we are known as musculoskeletal pain relief doctors. Actually, a chiropractor’s main concern for his practice members is the health and optimum function of their nervous system.

Chiropractors understand that it is through the nervous system that the function of every cell, organ, tissue and system of the body is controlled and coordinated. The spinal cord (central nervous system) and the peripheral nerves are the conduit through which information travels from the various parts of the body to the brain and from the brain to the body, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The body can handle an astounding amount of stress; however, when we experience any kind of trauma (mental, emotional, physical and/or chemical) that is too significant for the body to process all at once, the brain (in its inherent intelligence) shuts off the information flow to the nerves in the corresponding area of your spine. Immediately or over time, the trauma can translate to pain, dysfunction and/or disease.

Chiropractic’s main purpose is to restore the normal flow of information by the nervous system through realignment of the spine and resolution of old holding patterns in the spine. Once the nerve flow is restored, the intelligence of the body knows how to heal itself. When the health of the nervous system is restored any number of problems may resolve, such as headaches, joint pain, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica and many other conditions.

Doctors of chiropractic are primary health care providers licensed in all 50 states.  Every year, more than 30 million Americans see chiropractors as part of their regular program.  Chiropractic is the fastest growing health care profession, with over 84,000 licensed chiropractors nationwide and more than 10,000 students currently enrolled in chiropractic school.
